Bartlett student participates in a J-Term study tour to Namibia

2017 Feb 8

Erin Freeman of Bartlett participated in a J-Term study tour to Namibia with Carthage College.

Students on the "Namibia: A Sociocultural Journey" study tour had direct interaction with many of Namibia's distinct cultures. This experience was designed for the adventurous student, one who enjoys pitching in to help, conversing with nature, and does not mind the challenges of bush camping. Students set up and took down their tents where they slept, assisted in meal preparation, assisted their guide and driver in loading and unloading of equipment, and completed a day-long service learning project building a Hope Garden for the household of one of the children receiving services from the Oonte Center for Orphans and Vulnerable Children.

J-Term is a special month-long period of study in which Carthage students explore subjects outside their majors or minors, discover new interests, and test their creativity through classes held both on campus and around the world. It's a month to experiment, create and dream. Carthage is ranked No. 4 in the nation among baccalaureate institutions for student participation in short-term study abroad.
