Glen Ellyn student participates in World War II J-Term study tour to Western Europe

2016 Jan 28

Shannon Cadagin of Glen Ellyn participated in a World War II J-Term study tour to Western Europe.

Students on this tour visited battlefields, monuments, museums, and cemeteries of World War II in Western Europe. In addition to visiting the historical sites that endured the twentieth centurys most devastating conflict, students also had time to explore some of Europes greatest cities, including London, Paris, Brussels, and Munich. The goal of the trip was to get students to evaluate the effects of the war upon civilian populations, the strategies pursued by the participants, and the major events in both the Pacific and European theaters from the 1930s until 1945 and the extent to which theories of race and culture contributed to and exacerbated the war.

J-Term is a special month-long period of study in which Carthage students explore subjects outside their majors or minors, discover new interests, and test their creativity through classes held both on campus and around the world. It's a month to experiment, create and dream. Carthage is ranked No. 4 in the nation among baccalaureate institutions for student participation in short-term study abroad.
