Gurnee student receives CIC/UPS Scholarship

Carthage student Erika Salonga, majoring in nursing from Gurnee has been selected to receive a CIC/UPS Scholarship provided by the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) and its national partner, the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) in Washington, DC.

Nationally, CIC and the UPS Foundation provided more than $1.5 million in student scholarships through state-based associations to make private colleges and universities more accessible to underserved students. This year, WAICU awarded $66,000 in CIC/UPS Scholarships to 24 low-income students at private institutions across Wisconsin.

"At a time when college graduates are more critical to Wisconsin's economy than ever, we are especially grateful to CIC and UPS for their partnership in making students' aspirations in higher education a reality," said Dr. Rolf Wegenke, president of WAICU.
