Lauren Miller '15 presents topology research at world's largest mathematics conference

2015 Jan 28

Lauren Miller '15 presented a poster summarizing her research on knots at the joint annual meeting of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America in San Antonio, Texas which was held from Saturday, Jan. 10 to Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Her research, which began as a Summer Undergraduate Research Experience project with Carthage Mathematics Professor Aaron Trautwein in 2014, aims to expand the known number of harmonic knot parameterizations. She will use information to continue her research in finding a new knot invariant.

A fixture of the math lab, Lauren loves to get students of all majors excited about mathematics. Next year, she hopes to enter a mathematics graduate program to continue her work on topology, and is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship applicant.

She will present this research at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Spokane, Wash. in April. Outside of Carthage, Lauren is an accomplished artist and American Board of Optometry certified optician.
