St. Paul student presents research at seventh annual Celebration of Scholars event

2017 May 2

Carthage College held the seventh annual Celebration of Scholars event on Friday, April 28, 2017. Celebration of Scholars is a poster exhibition that features original research, scholarship, and creative work completed by Carthage students.

Jackson Bailey of St. Paul presented "Feasibility Study For Heart Screenings" at the event.

This is the project's abstract:

"Velocity Consulting was approached with the opportunity to help create a non-profit organization to screen adolescents in lower income areas for preexisting heart conditions that have gone undetected. To start this organization, we created a feasibility study to address the market and resources available to this achieve this goal. Our initial plan is to partner with local organizations to lower the cost of entrance by using their skills and resources. We believe that by involving the community and available resources, this idea and organization can be both sustainable and scalable to other areas throughout the country. Our research has consisted of meetings and conversations with governing officials, collaboration with various chiefs throughout the fire department, the US tax code, and analysis of government processes currently in place. Currently, this analysis is still in progress."
