Dominik Drwila '24 honored as a hometown hero
Johnsburg (Illinois) High School honored Carthage student Dominik Drwila '24 for his assistance at the scene of a car accident last month. He was one of four "hometown heroes" recognized Oct. 8 at halftime of the school's home football game.

Carthage College's Management and Marketing Department named Kendall Bacon '20 as the Outstanding Senior in Management for the 2019-20 academic year. Kendall is a double major in management and marketing with a minor in public relations, and will graduate Magna Cum Laude.

Selected to present at National Association for Campus Activities Convention
Hailey Morgan, the Carthage Activities Board's Director of Event Management, has been selected to present at the National Association for Campus Activities Convention in Boston. The convention will be held in February 2018. This is an honor rarely bestowed upon undergraduate students. Her educational session, "From CAMP to Campus", is focused on aiding students and staff in relationship building and hospitality for performers and agencies.

The 15 juniors in Carthage's first nursing cohort received their white lab coats in a Sept. 23 ceremony, a rite of passage signaling the transition to the clinical portion of their education.

Presented at national mathematics conference
These students presented their research based on the Ising Model, a mathematical model for the polarization ferromagnetic materials. They have been working together this summer to study and extend this model as part of the SURE program, and are advised by Professor Haley Yaple. The students gave two talks at MathFest, an annual conference for mathematics and math education that was held July 26-29 in Chicago.

As part of the 2017 Arts and Creativity Festival, Carthage hosted the "Here I Stand" Creativity Competition. In partnership with the Luther 500 Celebration, the competition encouraged submissions that celebrated the theme of "Here I Stand." Participants entered in the categories of visual arts, performing and interdisciplinary arts, and written word.

DREAM Conference Winner
The Dream Undergraduate Diversity Conference, in its second year, yielded many interesting topics including stoicism, white privilege, understanding non-binary gender, mental illness, and racism. Students presented research projects, photography, poetry, artwork, creative animation, and pictorial essays. The field of presenters were judged by a panel of four faculty members.

The Arts and Creativity Leadership Team (ACLT) is made up of exceptional arts students with an interest in community engagement, artistic excellence, and arts advocacy. The leaders were nominated by peers and faculty members, and serve as advisors for the annual Arts and Creativity Festival. Members of the ACLT also take on project management for events such as the Family Arts Carnival and the Arts Everywhere Initiative.
