Three Carthage physics students have been selected across two different NASA locations to participate in summer internships within the agency. NASA internships are highly competitive opportunities with selection rates often as low as 1/1000. These internships are considered gateway opportunities to careers in aerospace. All three students have worked for several years on space technology development projects at Carthage. The three NASA internships are financially supported by the NASA Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium at Carthage.

Katiann Nelson '22 recently accepted an internship with the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. The highly competitive internship allows Nelson the opportunity to work with two departments at the Conservatory: Education and Administration.

The Smeds Executive Internship Program is a summer internship program that allows Carthage College students to apply their coursework in real-world settings, and enables companies and organizations to employ students for real-work projects while evaluating them as potential employees. Smeds Executive Interns are typically paid by the companies/organizations and earn a stipend from funds earmarked by the program's benefactor, Edward Smeds '57, who chaired the Carthage Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2011.

The Great Lakes Career Ready Internship Program at Carthage creates paid internship experiences for junior and senior students. Thanks to the generosity of the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation, a total of 198 students over three years will be able to earn $12 per hour for unpaid internships.

For developing an award-winning play last summer based on the words of veterans, Laurel McKenzie '16 was honored as Carthage's Intern of the Year.

This summer, Taylor Tibbs '17 will conduct microbiology research at Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald, Germany. She has been selected to participate in the competitive Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) program of the German Academic Exchange Service funded by the German government. She is the first student from Carthage to be offered a position through RISE.

Hailey Morgan's exhibit "Pike River Farm: A Folk Art Model" is on display at the Kenosha History Center.

The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music provides musical experiences and training to students aged four months through senior citizens. The conservatory aims to provide enriching cultural experiences and the best musical education to adult and child performers alike.

A total of 19 Carthage students participated in internships at regional businesses and nonprofits in fall 2014 through a grant funded by Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation.

The Carthage Intern of the Year is awarded with $250 and has his or her name displayed prominently on a plaque in the Career Services office. All currently enrolled students who have participated in experiential learning (SURE, field placements, internships, student teaching etc.) are eligible for the award. These experiences could have been for credit or no credit, paid or unpaid.
