Carthage Elementary Education Students Host Energy Conservation Day
Carthage elementary education students recently applied what they are learning in their course, Effectively Teaching Science in the Elementary and Middle School, to coordinate the first-ever Energy Conservation Day on April 11 to teach science to fifth-graders. This experience gave the elementary education students in their junior year real-world experience in lesson planning, classroom management, and thinking on their feet. In the weeks leading up to the event, the class designed the lessons, ordered supplies, and established learning targets. They can apply their collaboration and problem-solving skills when they student teach next year.

Carthage Neuroscience Students Present Research at Chicago Conference
Three Carthage neuroscience students presented novel research findings at the Chicago Society for Neuroscience meeting on March 21 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Under the guidance of Professor Sarah Terrill, senior Bo Anderson presented a poster titled "Neurobehavioral Plasticity in the Rodent Gustatory System Induced by Regular Consumption of a Low-Calorie Sweetener During Adolescence." Senior Kristie Endresen and junior Mary Barclay highlighted data they collected in Prof. Terrill's Advanced Research Methods in Neuroscience Fall 2024 course in their presentation: "Effect of ICV Irisin on Chow Intake and Sucrose Preference in Sprague Dawley Rats."

Carthage Public Relations Students Present Research at National Conference
Five Carthage senior Public Relations students presented their research and thesis papers at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research (NCUR), which took place from April 7-9 in Pittsburgh, Penn. The students deeply researched topics, including ethics in AI in the PR field, crisis communication, internal communication management, parasocial relationships and their ties to PR, and the use of nostalgia in advertising. The following students presented at NCUR: Abby Trainor '25, Andrea Medina '25, Lauren Coshun '25, Madison Flynn '25, and Thomas Parker '25.

Carthage Social Work Students Attend National Association of Social Workers Advocacy Day
Twelve Carthage social work students attended the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-WI) Advocacy Day on April 9 in Madison, Wis., with Professor Rebecca Hornung, social work department chair. Attendees participated in workshops on advocacy skills, gun violence prevention, and public service student loan forgiveness programs, among other topics. Attendees had opportunities to meet with elected officials to discuss the importance of policies that impact social workers and the communities they serve. This experience was an empowering way for students to use their voices to impact public policies in Wisconsin, gain lobbying skills, and network with professionals in the social work field.

Carthage College School of Business and Economics Students Attend Conference in Austria
In March, seven Carthage School of Business and Economics students attended the 9th International Conference on Advanced Research in Business, Management, and Economics (ICABME) in Vienna, Austria. Carthage's Finance and Investment Club had the opportunity to network with professionals and engage with a diverse range of speakers on topics such as human resilience in the age of AI and the identification of efficient and inefficient workers based on their FFPQ scores. Chao Zheng, professor and chair of the Finance Department, accompanied the students.

Over spring break (March 9-18), 16 Carthage Model United Nations students, accompanied by Professor Jeffrey Roberg, traveled to Singapore to attend the Nanyang Technological University Model United Nations (NTUMUN) conference.

Two Esports members were awarded 3rd place in the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association's Best Sports Play-by-Play TV category on Feb. 22 at Lambeau Field.

Carthage College Students Complete Mock Trial Fall 2024 Season
Carthage Mock Trial completed its fall invitational season at the Fantastic Flyer Tournament, hosted by Lewis University Nov. 23-24. Members of the Mock Trial Team act as attorneys and witnesses and present the case as the plaintiff and defense while being scored on how well they know the law.

Carthage College White Coat Ceremony for '26 Nursing Class
Carthage College's Nursing Class of 2026 celebrated its White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in the A. F. Siebert Chapel on campus in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The White Coat Ceremony represents the end of all pre-nursing classes for the 68 students. As juniors, this milestone signifies their transition to vocational coursework for the remaining two years at Carthage before becoming a professional nurse.

Carthage College had 31 students participate in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) fall auditions on Nov. 1-2 at UW-Milwaukee. Several Carthage students qualified to compete in the regional National Student Auditions.

Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Participants
Carthage College selected 36 students for its Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE). The SURE program offers Carthage students in all majors an opportunity to engage in collaborative full-time research with professors. Students work closely with faculty mentors on a new or developing line of research. Many students present their research at the annual Celebration of Scholars event the following spring. SURE has been a hallmark of the Carthage experience since the mid-1990s. SURE started in the natural sciences and grew to include all academic divisions at Carthage.

More than 40 Carthage students have been selected to conduct research with faculty this summer as part of the 2023 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience. The SURE program at Carthage offers students in all majors the opportunity to engage in collaborative full-time research with professors. Students work closely with faculty mentors on a new or developing line of research. SURE has been a hallmark of the Carthage experience since the mid-1990s. SURE started in the natural sciences and grew to include all academic divisions at Carthage. Each summer, between 25 and 50 students are chosen to participate.
