Seven students from Carthage's Social Work department attended and served as conference volunteers at the 51st Annual National Association of Social Workers of Wisconsin (NASW-WI) Conference in the Wisconsin Dells from Oct. 29-31. Students learned about best practices in social work, networked with seasoned professionals and agencies, and established themselves as future leaders in the field. They attended workshop topics on the role of artificial intelligence and technology in social work, immigration issues, trauma-informed approaches to care, and strategies for preventing burnout and building resilience.

Carthage College's Enactus student organization attended the 2025 Enactus World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand, in September. Five student representatives traveled with their faculty advisor, Carter Rockhill, assistant professor of management and marketing. The students engaged with students from around the globe about projects focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. The World Cup took place in conjunction with the SX Sustainability Expo, which is the largest sustainability expo in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In addition to attending the Enactus World Cup, the students learned about Thai culture. Enactus, founded in 1975, is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that enables university teams to explore entrepreneurial initiatives that have a positive social and environmental impact in communities across six continents.

Carthage Geoscience students Hailey Hays and Jenna Gunnink presented their Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) project at the annual meeting of the West Lakes Division of the Association of American Geographers in October. In summer 2025, the two students utilized drone technology to record and analyze the health of vegetation at the Pine Dunes Forest Preserve in Antioch, Illinois, as part of their SURE project. Results of their research will be shared with the Lake County Forest Preserve so they can better implement management and growth strategies for the land. Matthew Zorn, Professor of Geospatial Science, served as their faculty mentor.

Carthage College nursing student Angelina Gersch presented her research, "Save a Limb, Save a Life: Screening in Communities with High Non-Traumatic Amputation Risk," at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care in Las Vegas in September 2025. Through her Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) project, Gersch worked with Save a Limb, Save a Life Foundation to research data related to peripheral arterial disease and community screening initiatives aimed at preventing non-traumatic amputations. "This experience supported my goal of becoming a nurse by exposing me to essential services I had not seen before. I now feel empowered and more knowledgeable in research and presentation skills," Gersch said. Nursing faculty member Laura Swoboda served as a mentor for the research project. Both of Gersch's abstracts were recognized among the top screening abstracts in a highly competitive national pool.

During the Fall 2025 semester, a select group of Carthage students studying language participated in a study abroad experience. As part of its liberal arts curriculum, Carthage offers students the opportunity to study abroad during a month-long J-term, as well as semester or year-long experiences. Students majoring in a foreign language are typically required to study abroad in a country where the target language is spoken for at least a semester.

Nearly 200 Carthage College students traveled with faculty on international study tours in January.

Five Carthage students were selected for NASA's Mentorship and Opportunities in STEM with Academic Institutions for Community Success (MOSAICS) program: Juliana Alvarez '27, Owen Bonnett '28, Semaje Farmer '26, Skylar Farr '26, and Braedon Larsen '27. After conducting research on campus during the academic year, they've finished the yearlong opportunity at the Johnson Space Center facility in Houston. The interns were mentored by JSC engineers and Carthage professor Kevin Crosby, who received $300,000 from the space agency to start this program. Building on a promising solution that Prof. Crosby and a collaborator from Georgia Tech submitted to win last year's NASA tank venting challenge, the team's work centers on a new in-space refueling technology that could prove useful for sustained lunar operations. This is one of several ongoing lines of research in Carthage's well-established space sciences program. For nearly two decades, faculty and students have partnered with the space agency and leading companies to solve problems in the aerospace industry.

Students from Carthage College nursing participated in the White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 20 in the A.F. Siebert Chapel on campus in Kenosha, WI. The White Coat Ceremony represents the end of foundational classes for the nursing students. For juniors, this milestone signifies a transition to specialty-focused clinical coursework for the remaining two years at Carthage. Carthage elementary education students recently applied what they are learning in their course, Effectively Teaching Science in the Elementary and Middle School, to coordinate the first-ever Energy Conservation Day on April 11 to teach science to fifth-graders. This experience gave the elementary education students in their junior year real-world experience in lesson planning, classroom management, and thinking on their feet. In the weeks leading up to the event, the class designed the lessons, ordered supplies, and established learning targets. They can apply their collaboration and problem-solving skills when they student teach next year.

Two Esports members were awarded 3rd place in the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association's Best Sports Play-by-Play TV category on Feb. 22 at Lambeau Field.

Carthage College's Nursing Class of 2026 celebrated its White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in the A. F. Siebert Chapel on campus in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The White Coat Ceremony represents the end of all pre-nursing classes for the 68 students. As juniors, this milestone signifies their transition to vocational coursework for the remaining two years at Carthage before becoming a professional nurse.

Carthage College Student Government gives students the right and responsibility to work with administration and faculty to ensure the high quality of life all students deserve, academically and socially.

Carthage College had 31 students participate in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) fall auditions on Nov. 1-2 at UW-Milwaukee. Several Carthage students qualified to compete in the regional National Student Auditions.

To celebrate the Advent season, Carthage College students participated in the 149th Christmas Festival the weekend of Dec. 1-3, 2023 in the magnificent A. F. Siebert Chapel in Kenosha, Wis.

Students studying Japanese at Carthage participated in the Annual Japanese Speech and Recitation Contest, hosted virtually by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on March 4.

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced their 2021 Dave Wrath Academic All-Conference honorees. The Dave Wrath Academic All-Conference list comprises those individuals that achieved an overall grade-point average of 3.30 or above and have served at least one year in residency at their respective school.
