Stefanie Guercio Becomes Softball's Second All-American in Program History
The broken record train continues on behalf of Carthage College softball junior pitcher Stefanie Guercio, who was named to the 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-America First Team during the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball World Series Banquet in Tyler, Texas.

Stefanie Guercio named finalist for NCFA National Player of the Year
Stefanie Guercio, a junior at Carthage College, was named a finalist for the NCFA National Player of the Year. She finished her season with a 21-4 mark and 0.80 ERA, walking just 38 and fanning 229 over 158.1 innings. The winners will be announced following the completion of the NCAA championship finals in Tyler, Texas.

Carthage College's Paige Hollendonner '21awarded a $500 scholarship from Hallmark
Paige Hollendonner '21 was a speaker at the Enactus USA National Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri earlier this month. Hollendonner, the Vice President of Carthage Enactus was selected as a Hallmark Brand Ambassador. While in Kansas City, Hollendonner had the opportunity to tour Hallmark Headquarters and meet with business leaders from the company. She was also awarded a $500 scholarship from Hallmark. She will be hosting Hallmark events on Carthage College's campus next year.

Five students from Carthage's inaugural nursing class were inducted into the Phi Beta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing on Saturday, April 27. Carthage Model UN students win awards in Amsterdam
17 Carthage Model United Nations students, accompanied by Professor Jeffrey Roberg of the Political Science Department and Professor Emerita Penny Seymoure of the Psychological Science Department, traveled abroad to Amsterdam, Netherlands to participate in the Amsterdam University College Model United Nations Conference April 4-9, 2019. AUCMUN had approximately 200 participants from 64 countries.

Carthage students earn scholarships, internships, and fellowships from Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium
Several Carthage students have earned scholarships, internships, and research opportunities through the NASA Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium for the 2019-20 school year. This year, the NASA WSGC awarded $54,570 to Carthage students, funds which were made available through the NASA National Space Grant College and Fellowship program for the pursuit of undergraduate space-related studies.

Logan Engberg Shatters Outdoor 10,000 Meter Run Record
The Carthage College men's track & field team had select members compete in the Augustana College Meet of Champions in Rock Island, Illinois, while a handful embarked on the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge in La Crosse, Wisconsin on Friday, April 19th. The 10000 meter run field at UW-La Crosse had senior Logan Engberg licking his chops as he shattered the school record with a time of 30:33.90, which broke 2017 Carthage Hall of Fame Inductee Glen Schumacher's 43-year record of 30:55.64 accomplished in 1976. Engberg, who's perpetually improved throughout his four-years with the Red Men, also owns the indoor 5,000 meter run school record (14:52.57). Engberg's time on Friday put him in fourth place out of 37 competitors.

Five Carthage students attended and were able to develop connections with classics students and professors from all over the country. The Carthage contingent won one round in the certamen, a classics trivia game. The Carthage chapter earned their third consecutive award for "Best T-Shirt," and two of our students also earned individual awards. Sociology major Alissa Marek-Spartz '20 was awarded best dressed female in the vir et femina vestiti splendidissime competition. Music and classics major Cole Pantano '22 won the Latin Declamation contest and presented his rendition of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech in Latin at the closing banquet.

Two Carthaginians' names appear in the 2018 Economic Report of the President of the United States
The Economic Report of the President, which was published together with the Annual Report of the Council of Economic Advisors in March, contains the names of two Carthage students. The students are cited in the Annual Report of the Council of Economic Advisors for their work as interns in Washington, D.C. Troy Durie, an economics major, received the internship post-graduation. Jackson Bailey, an IPE and finance double major, interned full time in fall 2018. Carthage College's Accounting and Finance Department is currently engaged in amending the catalog internship language in the hope that such prestigious opportunities can be experienced by additional Carthage students in future.

Nine Carthage students were inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honorary society. Phi Alpha Theta, founded in 1921, is second only to Phi Beta Kappa in its requirements.

Jenna Link '22 finishes first in Wisconsin Excel Competition
Freshman Jenna Link '22 not only beat her classmates, she also beat the entire state of Wisconsin in the Microsoft Excel Competition. Students who take Intro to Business are required to take the Microsoft Office Excel Specialist Exam. The top possible score is 900. Jenna scored 893. A few months after Jenna completed her exam, she received an interesting letter in the mail. Jenna learned her 893 was the top score in the state and one of the top scores in the country. Also in the letter, there was an invitation from Microsoft for a national competition in Florida.

Three Carthage Students Awarded NASA Internships
Three Carthage physics students have been selected across two different NASA locations to participate in summer internships within the agency. NASA internships are highly competitive opportunities with selection rates often as low as 1/1000. These internships are considered gateway opportunities to careers in aerospace. All three students have worked for several years on space technology development projects at Carthage. The three NASA internships are financially supported by the NASA Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium at Carthage.

Red Men 4x400 Meter Relay Registers Eighth Place at NCAA Division III Indoor Nationals
The Carthage College men's track & field team entered the back-end of the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts on the verge of history with their 4x400 meter relay team of Ronny Onano, Dane Rasmussen, Michael Schantek and David Rogers. The quartet, who qualified for nationals with a 3:16.08 achieved at the CCIW Championships, made it to Saturday's finals after clocking-in an eighth place mark of 3:18.93 in Friday's prelims. The finals resulted in an eighth-place time of 3:27.60 on Saturday, which scored Carthage one point on the overall team standings. Mount Union won the NCAA Divison III Men's 4x400 Meter Relay National Championship with a 3:14.79. The eighth-place time secured Carthage their 12th overall All-American indoor finish, and first since 2014. It also marked the Red Men's first indoor All-American mark in the 4x400 meter relay.

Elizabeth Willis Secures Third Place in Shot Put at NCAA Division III Indoor Championship
Carthage College women's track & field athlete Elizabeth Willis competed in the shot put at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday. Willis made history with her second All-American tally of the two-day event when she topped out with a career-best 14.48m, good enough for third place out of 20 competitors. Willis's second All-American mark of the event gives the Lady Reds 29 for their indoor program. It also marks the highest Lady Reds finish in the shot put since 1988 when Becky Rucks took second place. Willis saved her best for last as she didn't eclipse the 14.00m mark over her first five tosses as her 13.70m on attempt number one secured her a spot in the finals. After throwing a 13.63m and 13.42m on her fourth and fifth attempts, she bombed a 14.48m on the final throw.

Red Men Land Fifth Place at CCIW Championship, 4x400 Takes CCIW Crown on Day Two
The Carthage College 4x400 meter relay team highlighted the Red Men on Saturday, February 23rd as they secured the CCIW Championship with a time of 3:19.76, which propelled Carthage to fifth place out of nine teams with 68 points. It marks the Red Men's first CCIW Indoor 4x400 Meter Relay Championship since 2010.

Carthage Mock Trial advances to the 2019 Opening Round Championship Series
The Carthage College Mock Trial team took third place in the 32-team tournament and will now advance to the Opening Round Championship Series in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the weekend of March 8-10. The season started with 13 new team members who had never before participated in mock trial at any level. Only one student returned from last year's team. At their first tournament of the season last October, also in Minneapolis, the Carthage teams finished a combined 1-14-1. Their performance in the regional is a quintessential reflection of the hard work, energy, and commitment put forth all season.

Participated in the 2018 Carthage Christmas Festival
Yearly, Carthage College invites the community to celebrate the joy of the holiday season at the annual Carthage Christmas Festival, three performances of readings and music in the A. F. Siebert Chapel. These annual concerts are the College's Christmas gift to the community. Tickets to the Christmas Festival have been free since the festival began more than 20 years ago.
