Carthage senior setter Ellie LeCount was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week following her performances during opening weekend. A native of Racine, Wisconsin and St. Catherine's High School, LeCount was named the Tournament MVP at the Southwestern Fall Invitational as the Lady Reds opened the season with four three-set sweeps. She averaged 11.17 set assists (134 total) including 30 against Whitworth, 26 vs. Hardin-Simmons, 38 against Whittier and 40 against Southwestern. LeCount also had 10 digs against Southwestern and nine each against Hardin-Simmons and Whittier.

Every month National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) members write and submit "Of the Month" (OTM) nominations. These OTMs are submitted in a variety of categories including resident assistant, advisor, diversity program, educational program, and institutional faculty just to name a few. These nominations are then submitted to GLACURH (Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls), who then pick one winner per category for the entire region.

Carthage sophomore forward Morgan Verbeten was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Soccer Player of the Week. A native of Libertyville, Illinois and Libertyville High School, Verbeten became the first Lady Reds player in six years to tally a hat trick as she scored all three of her team's goals in a 3-1 win over Kalamazoo on Saturday, August 31. All three of Verbeten's goals came in the second half as Carthage moved to 2-0-0 on the season.

Alec Digirolamo '22 and Alexandria Wheeler '21 presented their mathematical research to a national audience at the beginning of August.

Carthage College students selected to the Collegiate Water Polo 2019 Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete Team. To be selected, student-athletes must be active participants on the team and a full-time student at the institution which nominated them. Students must also have a 3.2 cumulative Grade Point Average or higher.

190 Carthage College student-athletes were recipients of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Academic All-Conference honors for the winter and spring seasons. This was announced on Thursday, July 18.

Two Carthage College student-athletes were named to the CCIW All-Central Region Team.

The broken record train continues on behalf of Carthage College softball junior pitcher Stefanie Guercio, who was named to the 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-America First Team during the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball World Series Banquet in Tyler, Texas.

Stefanie Guercio, a junior at Carthage College, was named a finalist for the NCFA National Player of the Year. She finished her season with a 21-4 mark and 0.80 ERA, walking just 38 and fanning 229 over 158.1 innings. The winners will be announced following the completion of the NCAA championship finals in Tyler, Texas.

Over the past month, the Carthage Activities Board has been hard at work electing their new leaders for the 2019-20 academic year.

Paige Hollendonner '21 was a speaker at the Enactus USA National Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri earlier this month. Hollendonner, the Vice President of Carthage Enactus was selected as a Hallmark Brand Ambassador. While in Kansas City, Hollendonner had the opportunity to tour Hallmark Headquarters and meet with business leaders from the company. She was also awarded a $500 scholarship from Hallmark. She will be hosting Hallmark events on Carthage College's campus next year.

17 Carthage Model United Nations students, accompanied by Professor Jeffrey Roberg of the Political Science Department and Professor Emerita Penny Seymoure of the Psychological Science Department, traveled abroad to Amsterdam, Netherlands to participate in the Amsterdam University College Model United Nations Conference April 4-9, 2019. AUCMUN had approximately 200 participants from 64 countries.

Five students from Carthage's inaugural nursing class were inducted into the Phi Beta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing on Saturday, April 27. Sigma Theta Tau is committed to fostering excellence, scholarship, and leadership in nursing to improve health care worldwide.

Sabiella Gomez '19 was presented with the Distinguished Senior Award at the Celebration of Scholars Award Ceremony on Friday, April 26. Sabiella was recognized for her dedication as a student and volunteer, and for her leadership in on-campus student organizations and activities.

Three Carthage Chinese students were recognized by the Wisconsin Association of Chinese Language Teachers as outstanding learners with certificates in Excellence in Chinese Learning.

Professor Darwin Tsen and target language expert Tianhua Lei took students from Carthage's Chinese Program to participate in the annual Midwest Universities Chinese Speech Competition at Loyola University of Chicago on Saturday, April 27. This event is sponsored by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China.

Carthage held its ninth annual Celebration of Scholars on Friday, April 26, 2019, during Spring Family Weekend. Students, families, staff, faculty, alumni, and members of the community celebrated student and faculty research, scholarship, and creativity with a poster exhibition and award ceremony.

Several Carthage students have earned scholarships, internships, and research opportunities through the NASA Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium for the 2019-20 school year. This year, the NASA WSGC awarded $54,570 to Carthage students, funds which were made available through the NASA National Space Grant College and Fellowship program for the pursuit of undergraduate space-related studies.
