Participated in the 2017 College Fed Challenge
A team of six Carthage students competed in the College Fed Challenge in November 2017. The regional competition in Chicago allows students to investigate the state of the economy, create a policy, and see how that would affect the national economy and individual citizens. Each team then presents its research to representatives from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Professor Catherine Lau, chair of the Accounting and Finance Department, oversees the Fed Challenge team. Carthage earned commendation for its creative approach to address excess reserves.

Carthage's Zack Bongratz was selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Diver of the Week on Jan. 30. Bongratz finished second in the one-meter event during the Wisconsin Private College Championship on Saturday at Carthage. His score of 395.25 was a lifetime best by 35 points.

Named CCIW Men's Swimmer of the Week
Carthage's Mitch Scarski was selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 30. Scarski helped lead Carthage to a first place finish at the Wisconsin Private College Championship on Saturday. He won both the 200-yard IM (1:57.10) and the 100-yard breaststroke (59.40).

Represented Carthage at American Model United Nations Conference
Carthage Model UN students competed in a field of approximately 1,500 students from 92 universities and colleges across the United States and the world. Carthage students tackled issues of international importance such as: combating violence and violent extremism, bridging digital divides, enhancing regional economic cooperation and integration in Asia and the Pacific, antimicrobial resistance, and the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Participated in the 2017 Carthage Christmas Festival
Yearly, Carthage College invites the community to celebrate the joy of the holiday season at the annual Carthage Christmas Festival, three performances of readings and music in the A. F. Siebert Chapel. These annual concerts are the College's Christmas gift to the community. Tickets to the Christmas Festival have been free since the festival began more than 20 years ago.

CCIW Diver of the Week
The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced on Tuesday, Dec. 5 that Trisha Garcia was named the CCIW Diver of the Week. Garcia, a freshman from Burr Ridge, Illinois, achieved a pair of best scores for 11 dives during the A3 Carthage Classic over the weekend. She finished with a score of 339.90 on the one-meter board and 287.10 on the three-meter board.

CCIW Swimmer of the Week
The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced on Tuesday, Dec. 5 that Becca Rutkowski has been named the CCIW Women's Swimmer of the Week. Rutkowski won a pair of events while helping the Lady Reds win the A3 Carthage Classic over the weekend. She finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.18) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.52) as both times were lifetime bests.

CCIW Player of the Week - Women's Basketball
Carthage College women's basketball sophomore guard Madie Kaelber was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Kaelber's first CCIW Player of the Week honor comes on the heels of her career-high, 33-point performance in the Lady Red's 96-90 2OT loss at University of Chicago on November 26. Twenty-seven of those points occurred in the second half, and two overtime periods.

Carthage College women's soccer junior forward Maggie Washelesky was named to the 2017 All-CCIW Second Team. Washelesky's honor comes after being named to the 2015 and 2016 All-CCIW First Teams, and the 2016 NSCA All-Central Region Second Team.
