Carthage College

The incoming group of new students comprises approximately 840 students from 19 U.S. states and five foreign countries. With an average high school GPA of 3.32, the Class of 2019 also ranks among the most successful ever.

The Biology and Geography of Nicaragua study tour provided a unique opportunity for students to experience clinical work or work on water projects. Both aspects provided students first-hand knowledge of the rural volcanic island of Ometepe, Nicaragua. Students also learned the fascinating history, culture, and environment of this country, and saw how all of this has affected the land and people.

Carthage students went to California in early June for the annual J-Term study tour Sports Journalism: Baseball. They learned about the journalism and marketing that surround Major League Baseball. The student journalists attended and reported on five baseball games covering the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres.

Every summer, Carthage students help to uncover the ancient world by participating in the excavation of a Roman temple complex in Omrit, Israel. Students are instrumental in unearthing this amazing archaeological site, revealing structures and artifacts from the first century BCE, and adding to our understanding of the history and development of this important region of the world.

Japan possesses a long history, a complex geography and has its distinctive cultural heritages. Today's Japan has the third largest economy and the tenth largest population in the world. This course exposed students to and engaged them in the rich and diverse cultural traditions that modern Japan has to offer.

Alpha Delta Kappa is an honorary, international sorority of female educators. Each year, they award their Future Educator Scholarship to a student who displays potential to be an excellent educator and will teach early childhood to 12th grade.

A total of 804 students have been named to the Carthage College Dean's List for the Spring 2015 semester.

First baseman/pitcher Jared Helmich (Jr., Lake Villa, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community, .354, 11 doubles, 6 home runs, 33 RBI, 4-1 pitching record, 2.21 earned run average) was named the baseball player of the year by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

The Carthage College baseball team won the 2015 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin baseball tournament.

Was named second-team all-conference in baseball.

Was named first-team all-conference in baseball.

McKenzie Parks (Jr., Oregon, Wis., team-leading 77.8 season average, tied for 10th place at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship) was named Women's Golf Coaches Association second-team All-America.

The Carthage College men's tennis team won the 2015 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship.

Carthage College catcher Nick Schmidlkofer (Sr., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego, .333, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 33 RBI, 4 stolen bases) was named 2015 Capital One/CoSIDA first-team Academic All-America(R). Schmidlkofer, who graduated in May with a double major in biology and neuroscience and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.95, is Carthage's 12th CoSIDA Academic All-American(R), its seventh first-team member and the first Red Men baseball player to ever receive the award.

On May 24, 2015, 530 Carthage students became Carthage alumni.

Carthage held the fifth annual Celebration of Scholars event on Friday, April 24, 2015. Celebration of Scholars is a poster exhibition that features original research, scholarship, and creative work completed by Carthage students.

Eighteen Carthage students were selected to present their original research or scholarship at NCUR, held on the campus of Eastern Washington University in Cheney and Spokane, Washington.
