Congratulations to all who were nominated, applied, and interviewed for Homecoming Court. This year was full of outstanding leaders.

Carthage College women's golfer Sarah Lyman was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Golfer of the Week. Lyman's honor comes on the heels of a busy two-tournament week for the Lady Red golf team. The Normal, Ill. native was the driving force behind Carthage's pair of first-places finishes on the week. She paced all Lady Red golfers at the North Central Women's Golf Invitational on September 21 with a score of 77, good enough for second place in a field of 51 golfers.

Nearly 40 students completed their studies at Carthage during the summer.

Carthage College's Molly McQueeny was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday morning. The freshman from Geneva, Ill. set the tone in her young career when she registered a 24:09.3 at the Concordia University (Wis.) Ken Weidt Classic on September 10. Her mark was the best among all Lady Red runners, and fourth in the entire field of 137 participants.

For the second week in a row Carthage goalkeeper Brayan Arce Justiniano has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Last week, the freshman from Chicago, Illinois earned his first career shutout in a 1-0 win over #18 Loras on Friday in the Red Men's only game of the week in his second career start.

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced Tuesday that Carthage College men's soccer swept the player of the week awards, with Zach Schoffstall claiming the offensive honor and Brayan Arce Justiniano taking the defensive recognition. Both played key rolls in Sunday's win at Wabash in the finale of the Robbie Dreher Classic.

The incoming group of new students includes approximately 737 freshmen and 83 transfer students. They come from 17 U.S. states and seven foreign countries and territories. It is the most diverse class in Carthage history.

Senior Taylor Tibbs was awarded second prize in the German Academic Exchange Service-DAAD's "Bauhaus in Your House" photo competition this summer for her photo of one of the light fixtures in the Science Center.

Carthage senior JP Flores is a featured artist in Wisconsin Photography 2016, an exhibit at RAM's Wustum Museum in Racine. Wisconsin Photography is an annual statewide competition organized by the museum. The museum received 886 submissions from nearly 100 artists.

The Carthage Japanese Department would like to congratulate Clarke Smith on her winning of the MEXT (Japanese Government Scholarship)! The scholarship will fully fund Clarke in her yearlong study abroad at Tokyo Gakugei University from Fall 2016 to Spring 2017.

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced Monday that Carthage College's Darquise Holman has been named the CCIW Special Teams Player of the Week for week two. Holman came off the left edge and dove to block the possible game-winning PAT to send the game into overtime, which the Red Men eventually won.

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced Tuesday that Carthage College's Kevin Mahoney has been named the first CCIW Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the 2016 season. Mahoney led the Red Men to a 3-0 start to the season with wins over the City College of New York, Endicott College and Gordon College.

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced Wednesday, September 7th that Carthage College Lady Red Casey Frommer has been named the first CCIW Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the 2016-17 season. Frommer, went 5-0 for the Lady Reds this past week at St. Norbert and Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Biology and Geography of Nicaragua study tour provided a unique opportunity for students to experience either clinical work, or work on water projects. Both aspects provided students first-hand knowledge of the rural volcanic island of Ometepe, Nicaragua. Students also learned the fascinating history, culture, and environment of this country, and saw how all of this has affected the land and people.

Students were introduced to early German pioneers of psychology and learned how they shaped the development of modern psychology as an empirical science. While exploring distinct historical periods from a psychological lens, students also had the opportunity to visit historically significant sites in Germany and interact with German scholars and students of psychology.

This course comprised 23 days and 22 nights of travel, entirely in Spain, including a one-week stay in Madrid and a two-week stay in Valencia. The class also spent a day in Toledo (near Madrid) and another in Sagunt (near Valencia). The primary objective of the course was linguistic and cultural immersion. Both of these goals were realized through the mechanism of Spanish family homestays and Spanish language classes in private language academies.

This was a service-learning class that was conducted in China in collaboration with a Chinese school. Students spent four weeks in China. During the first three weeks, they taught English and studied Chinese language and culture in a rural school district in Henan Province. During the fourth week the students toured important historical sites in Henan Province and continued their Chinese studies.

The Omrit Settlement Excavations are an opportunity to combine an interest in history, religion, and art, with a sense of adventure and discovery. The site in northern Israel is home to a three-phase Roman temple and a settlement that grew up around the temple and persisted into at least the 13th century CE. Student workers have been instrumental in uncovering this amazing site, and adding to our understanding of the history and development of this important region of the world.

Students learned a variety of journalistic writing styles and engaged in sports journalism as they attended baseball games in San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in June 2016. The course included attendance at Padres, Dodgers, Angels, Giants, and Athletics games over roughly two weeks.

This course examined the development of the "modern" movements in art and theatre at the end of the 19th century, and the impact and influences of the movement into the 21st century. This course explored the theatres, museums, and art galleries of New York City. Students saw productions at varying venues throughout the city including Broadway and off Broadway theatres.

A hallmark of the Carthage experience since the mid-1990s, the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience offers students across academic divisions the opportunity to engage in collaborative full-time research with professors. Students work closely with a faculty mentor on a new or developing line of research.

The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced that Carthage College's Allie Boothe has been named to the ACWPC All-America Second Team. Boothe becomes only the second Lady Red to receive second team all-America honor, joining Kimmy Genian back in 2011.

On May 22, 2016, 455 Carthage students became Carthage alumni.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced that three student-athletes on the Carthage College track and field programs have been named All-Midwest Region honorees following the 2016 outdoor regular season.

Vana finished first on the team this season with team-highs in goals [41] and assists [16]. Vana's 3.73 points per game ranked eighth in the conference and her goals ranked seventh.

Carthage College women's golfer Kayla Meyer (Sr. Appleton, Wis./Freedom) was named Women's Golf Coaches Association All-Central Region on May 11. Meyer was the medalist at last fall's College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Women's Golf Championship with a 73-75-82-230 and named All-CCIW for the third-straight year. She averaged 78.9 over 11 events with a career-best round of 72 on the second day of the April 16-17 Illinois Wesleyan "Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling."
