The Heritage Scholarship Program has two main purposes. Those purposes are to acknowledge and celebrate the high quality of student learning through the Western Heritage classes and to offer an opportunity for currently enrolled students to receive substantial scholarship support.

Won Global Heritage Prize
Global Heritage courses are concerned with ideas, works, and practices of non-Western traditions. The Global Heritage Competition is held annually to honor exceptional work in projects with a focus on non-Western traditions and peoples. Up to three cash awards will be made: $250 for first prize, $150 for second prize, and $100 for third prize.

CCIW Player of the Week - Tennis
Carthage College freshman Casey Frommer was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday afternoon. The Highland Park, Illinois native made a lasting impact on the Carthage College women's tennis team's lone match on the week at Lake Forest College on April 24. Frommer, and her doubles teammate Angelica Emmanouil, notched an 8-6 victory over the Christi Valicenti/Grace Dowling duo. This happened to be the #1 doubles match.

CCIW Player of the Week - Lacrosse
The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced Monday that Carthage College attacker Dylan Harris has been named the CCIW Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week. For Harris, this is the second time this season that he has been named the player of the week, previously receiving the honor on March 21st.

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced Monday that Carthage College goalkeeper Taylor Sopron has been named the CCIW Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second time Sopron has received the honor in 2016, previously being named the player of the week back on March 14th.

CCIW Golfer of the Week
Carthage College's Alex Stewart earned his second College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin "Men's Golfer of the Week" honor on April 19. Stewart took medalist honors at the April 16 Wisconsin Lutheran College Spring Invitational at the Morningstar Golfer's Club on Saturday in Waukesha, Wis. Stewart finished first with a two-under par 70. The Red Men won the team title with a score of 297.

MCVL Defensive Player of the Year
J.P. Tulacka, a senior middle blocker majoring in finance, is currently averaging 3.09 points per set, 1.89 kills per set, 1.51 blocks pre set, and a hitting percentage of .410. Tulacka's blocks per set average ranks in second in NCAA Division III and first in the MCVL. In addition, Tulacka is currently ranked 15th in the nation and first in the conference for hitting percentage.

Griffin Shields, a junior right side double majoring in finance and marketing with a minor in economics, is currently averaging 4.90 points per set, 3.88 kills per set, 1.05 blocks per set, and a hitting percentage .332. Earlier this season, Shields was name the Sports Imports / AVCA Division III Men's Player of the Week for the week of March 1.

Earned RISE Internship
This summer, Taylor Tibbs '17 will conduct microbiology research at Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald, Germany. She has been selected to participate in the competitive Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) program of the German Academic Exchange Service funded by the German government. She is the first student from Carthage to be offered a position through RISE.

Chosen to present at Posters on the Hill
John Warnock '16, a geography and earth science major from Park Ridge, Illinois, and Professor Wenjie Sun will fly to Washington for the 20th annual Posters on the Hill event April 19-20. The Council on Undergraduate Research, which sponsors the national research showcase, selected only 60 projects after reviewing several hundred applications.

The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League has named Carthage's Griffin Shields the MCVL Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Shields helped lead the Red Men to a 3-0 sweep of MCVL opponent MSOE on Thursday, March 24 with a total of 14 kills (4.67/set) and a .360 hitting percentage.
